Movie sequel announced for “Kaiji”

On Wednesday, film distributor Toho announced its upcoming lineup, including the new work that was revealed by Studio Ghibli. Although most of the lineup was already known, the list revealed at least two previously unannounced movies: “Gaikoukan Kuroda Kosaku” and “Kaiji 2″ (both are working titles).

“Kaiji 2″ is also a sequel to a 2009 movie. The first “Kaiji” film starred Tatsuya Fujiwara, who will again play the lead in the new one. Both are based on the gambling-themed manga “Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji” by Nobuyuki Fukumoto. “Kaiji 2″ has been scheduled for release in autumn 2011.

Fujiwara Tatsuya at press conference for “Ojiichan wa 25 sai”

Tokyohive previously reported that there will be a new drama titled “Ojiichan wa 25 sai” with Fujiwara Tatsuya playing the role of a 25-year-old grandfather.

On October 12th, a press conference for the drama was held, and the various cast members made an appearance. It’s been quite a while for Fujiwara to appear in a drama series, and this is also the first time for him to play a lead role by himself for a drama. Fujiwara said, “This is the first script I’ve ever laughed at heartily. I’ve found many more things to do as an actor.”

Kurashina Kana will play a granddaughter of Fujiwara, while Takahashi Katsumi plays his son. Other than them, veteran actors Ishibashi Renji, Daito Shunsuke, Irie Jingi, and Kikuchi Momoko will also have roles in the drama.

“Ojiichan wa 25 sai” will be air on November 15th ~ 18th, and 22nd ~ 25th at 11:50 p.m. on TBS.

Tatsuya Fujiwara becomes “25-year-old grandfather”

Actor Tatsuya Fujiwara (28) is taking on his first role in a TV comedy series, titled “Ojiichan wa 25 Sai.” The show is being directed by Yasuo Baba, whose past works include the films “Watashi wo Ski Ni Tsuretette” and “Bubble e Go!! Time Machine wa Drum Shiki.”

Fujiwara stars as a man who was in an accident on a snowy mountain 46 years ago. His frozen body is discovered in the present day, and despite being actually 71 years old, he has the appearance and personality of a 25-year-old. He also learns that at his old home in Oshiage, Tokyo, his son (played by Katsumi Takahashi) is now 52 years old and is raising two children of his own – a 25-year-old son (Shunsuke Daito) and a 20-year-old daughter (Kana Kurashina).

Naturally, Fujiwara’s character knows nothing about the past 46 years, so things such as mobile phones and concepts such as hikikomori are completely new to him.

The series will have a short run on TBS, starting on November 15 and ending on November 25. For those two weeks, it will air on Mondays through Thursdays at 11:50pm, for a total of 8 half-hour episodes.

One time only: Oguri Shun releases a magazine

Oguri Shun has released a magazine today, called “Shunkan Oguri (旬刊小栗)”, which contains the talks he had on his legendary radio show “Oguri Shun no All Night Nippon”, which ran for three years. It comes with a CD in which Shun recorded a secret talk with the comedian Okamura Takashi, and it had never been released to the public until now.

It also includes a talk between Shun and the likes of Fujiwara Tatsuya and Yamada Takayuki. This is a “one-time” magazine, so fans cannot pass this up!

Fujiwara Tatsuya’s stage performance begins

Popular actor, Fujiwara Tatsuya’s stage performance “Mokuami Opera (黙阿彌オペラ)” started on the 18th at Kinokuniya Southern Theater.

This stage performance is to commemorate famous dramatist, Inoue Hisashi, who passed away in April due to lung cancer. ”Mokuami Opeara” is a reproduction which Inoue strongly demanded, and he also named Tatsuya to be the lead actor.

Tatsuya said, “I want to cherish the role of ‘Gorozo’ which Inoue sensei gave me.”

“Mokuami Opera” will run until August 22nd at the Kinokuniya Southern Theater and they will also hold shows in Yamagata and Osaka.
